Welcome!

We are a group of embroiderers who also work

with a variety of textiles and mixed media

techniques. Our meetings are held on the first

Tuesday of the month at Cheriton Bishop Village

Hall, Yeoford Road, EX6 6JA, led by a wide

range of tutors. From April to September we

meet from 12.00 to 4pm.

Our annual fee is £25 and a 6 monthly fee of

£12.50 if joining after June. Visitors are

welcome at £2 per session (maximum 2 visits).

Membership gives many advantages: affiliation to West Country Embroiderers, monthly sessions, monthly Group Newsletter, discount at some craft and fabric shops and concessions to Westpoint craft shows.

We have a yearly exhibition of our work and also three Day Schools (10am to 4pm)  each year to develop our ideas. Books can be borrowed for a month from our extensive library. We are a friendly group who always manage to take a break for tea and cake!  Visitors and new members are always very welcome.

We are a branch of West Country Embroiderers.which was founded in 1973 and cover the three counties of Cornwall, Devon and Dorset.  Local groups ensure members don't have too far to travel in such a large and diverse area.  Membership gives us access to Day Schools organised by other groups.  WCE also organise twice yearly courses of a very high standard at The Kingcombe Centre, Dorset.

            Cheriton Bishop Embroiderers

Our group began after some members looked at the WCE stand at a craft show.  With excellent publicity prior to our first meeting, we had 38 paid up members. WCE were very supportive and during the first year not only gave us £150 to start but also gave us sources enabling us to invite first class speakers. We continue to be affiliated to WCE and support their events.

We have organised embroidery events for the last 19 years which has showcased our work and provided essential funds for the group.

We have been fortunate to be asked three times by the National Trust to exhibit at Castle Drogo - a local major tourist attraction.  Some members have  exhibited internationally. We have always been very keen to encourage anyone of any age or ability to be part of our group. All that is needed is a creative interest in embroidery and textiles.
