2019
January and February started the year off
with Alan Dilly showing us the
importance of sketch books, followed by
our February meeting with
Marlene Chaffey designing book covers.
Workshop with Douglas Anderson - March
Doug returned to Cheriton Bishop following an inspirational afternoon workshop last year. This was a hands
on day experimenting with mono printing, heat transfer and simple relief printing. The vivid colours and gasps
of delight when samples were revealed from the heat press certainly inspired many of us to try these new
skills at home in the near future.
SPRING FAIR 2019
Yet another outstanding display of members work illustrating a wide rang of techniques. This year, our group competition was 'Fish' which was won by Jenny Bone who won the Jan Postumus salver.

2016 Highlights
The Klimt Collage
Working from a Klimt poster, 36 squares were interpreted by members in a variety of techniques. These were then assembled into this striking wall hanging.
We exhibited the Klimt collage at the June 2016 Crediton Church Festival, where it attracted many admirers.

Copywright Sarah J Perry

Copywrite Deborah Ough
At our January meeting, we welcomed Sarah Perry who gave a fascinating talk on 'Fabrics and Feathers' illustrating it with examples of her exquisite work. She is well known for depicting birds embroidered in long and short stitch and has developed her own method of building up 3D images. The close observation of individual species, their structure & detailed colouring, gave the subjects amazing reality. To see more examples of her work do look at her website www.sarahjperry.com

February - The history and meanings of Chinese knotting was as fascinating as the practical workshop that followed. Deborah Ough patiently guided us through the 'button' knot and everyone achieved at least one knot and many members mastered more complex designs. These techniques could be incorporated into embroidery, bag fastening's and many other creative projects.

For our March meeting, we welcomed back Katy Choroszewska, also known for her Tamar Threads, and knew we were in for a treat. She gave us a most fascinating and vibrant talk entitled a 'A Brief Tour of the Colour Wheel' Her talk was illustrated using her cornucopia of hand dyed threads and fabrics whilst she included most interesting facts on the colour wheel, the history of colour and how it influences choices we make. It was interlaced with amusing anecdotes to give us a very enjoyable and entertaining afternoon.

To contact Katy please refer to our Links Page or visit her on her trade stall at Cheriton Bishop's Embroidery Spring Fair on 8th and 9th April(see above for more details)
Spring Fair - 8th-9th April

Our members contributed nearly 200 exhibits showcasing a range of embroidery and multi media textile skills. Visitors were drawn back to the 60's era with an exhibition of clothes and memorabilia. The venue was packed with visitors throughout the two days as they browsed the stalls and appreciated the delicious refreshments.

Our May meeting reflected the talents of one of our members, Hazel John. She guided our members through 'ribbon embroidery' and gave us individual tuition on this fascinating craft. Her work was inspirational and the numerous examples she brought, illustrated the boundless applications of this beautiful craft.
